We are now officially offering silver service for rabbits after securing a coveted national accreditation for the standard of care it offers the popular pets.
D&T in Rugeley has been officially recognised by the Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund (RWAF).
The silver accreditation is thanks in no small part to the creativity of lead vet nurse Joanne Waldron, who drew the size of a rabbit’s recommended ‘home’ on the floor of the practice reception to demonstrate how much space they need to clients – taking some by surprise! 
The accreditation is based on several markers including how a practice treats various complaints in rabbits; the medication it uses; the care taken when administering an anaesthetic; out-of-hours care and staff training.
Joanne, who worked on applying for the accreditation with veterinary surgeon Katie Grainger, said: “We’re delighted with this award because our whole team are pushing to gain better knowledge about rabbits and offer even greater care for them.
“I decided to draw the scale on the floor to highlight the space recommended and the reaction was surprising for most clients. Many of them were reminiscing about having a rabbit as a pet when they were a child and having a small hutch.
“The RWAF aims to put owners in touch with vets that show a greater knowledge of rabbit care and we can now officially count ourselves as members of that list. We’ll continue to push on with furthering our knowledge and passing it onto our clients as we aim for the gold accreditation.”
